Brussels, Oct 12, IRNA-A renowned Member of the European Parliament Wednesday said the Islamic Republic of Iran has much to offer the region and the wider world.
Speaking during a debate on Iran in the EP in Brussels, Baroness Emma Nicholson, said Iran ''has a more advanced form of democracy than most of her neighbours.''
''Theocracy or not, women's rights are far more developed, education is open to all and jobs, up to and including that of Vice President, are open to both genders,'' said Nicholson who is Vice President of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs and and member, Delegation for relations with Iran.
''With regards to the arts, I encourage you to visit the excellent British Museum exhibition on Persepolis which was opened by the Vice President of Iran only last month,'' said the British MEP.
''Iran's reintegration into the international community is therefore sorely long overdue and needed for regional peace and stability.''
''The essential prerequisite therefore is to resolve the nuclear issue. Of equal importance, and in order to avoid valid accusations of hypocrisy, the EU should pursue an equally aggressive policy of nuclear non-proliferation throughout the region.
The EU single foreign policy should pursue that goal,'' added the Baroness.
