Several thousand mines planted in western Iran by Iraqi army still claim lives of provincial people more than a decade after Iraqi imposed war (1980-1988), said the provincial official Khalil Babaei.
This was the third case of landmine explosion in the border city of Qassre Shirin during the past 23 days, he added, saying that four people were killed in the two previous explosions and three others were injured.
Iraqi Army had captured Qassre Shirin in surprise attack on the early days of invasion to Iran and planted landmines to deter any Iranian offensive to retake the city.
Over 12,000 hectares of agriculture lands in the border city of Qassre Shirin are mine-infested, provincial official said.
