Tehran, Oct 16, IRNA-Minister of Defense and Logistics of Armed Forces Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar on Sunday rejected British defense secretary claim on Iran's meddling in Iraq as unfounded.
The allegations made by some British officials against Iran are considered as awkward claims to cover (its) occupying-style presence and secret actions which caused insecurity in Iraq, Najjar said.
Britain's Defence Secretary John Reid claimed on Thursday that Iranians were behind roadside bombing against British troops in southern Iraq.
Najjar strongly condemned any terrorist act in Iraq, saying that those who commit such actions are real enemies of the ideal of Iraqi people.
The security, defense and economic agreements which have already been signed by the two countries indicated Iran's strong determination to help restore security and peace to Iraq.
He expressed hope that law and order will be restored in Iraq by enforcing the constitution, Iraqi permanent government will be established, foreign troops will withdraw from the country and an independent, sovereign and secure Iraq will emerge.
He said that "detente" is Iran's defense strategy for the region, noting, "We follow detente with active diplomacy in a bid to help strengthen peace and stability in the region."
