Quakes hit Rask and Behbahan in southeastern, southwestern Iran

Tehran, Sept 10, IRNA-Two earthquakes measuring 4.7 and 3.9 on the Richter scale hit southeast and southwest Iran, respectively on Saturday morning.

According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute affiliated to the Tehran University, the first quake rocked the outskirts of Rask in southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan at 8:00 hours local time (3:30 GMT).

The report added the tremor was registered in an area located in 26.23 degrees longitude and 61.50 degrees latitude.

No reports have yet been available on possible damage to property.

Rask, the canter of Sarbaz town, is located 500km south of the provincial capital, Zahedan.

Meanwhile, the second quake jolted the outskirts of Behbahan in southwestern province of Khuzestan at 8:34 hours local time (3:04 GMT).

According to Ahvaz-based Seismological Network affiliated to the Tehran University, the quake was registered in an area in 3.65 degrees latitude and 5.21 degrees longitude.

No reports have yet been available on possible damage to property.

The city of Behbahan lies on the province's most active seismic fault lines.
