Tehran, Sept 10, IRNA-Two separate earthquakes measuring 4.2 and 3.7 on Richter scale jolted the cities of Raz and Zarand in the northeastern and southeastern provinces of North Khorasan and Kerman Saturday morning respectively.
According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute affiliated to the Tehran University, the 4.2 Richter quake hit Raz at 05:39 hours local time (0109 GMT).
Ahmad Khosravi, an expert with the institute, told IRNA the tremor was registered in an area located in North Khorasan border with Turkmenistan in 57.13 degrees longitude and 38.29 degrees latitude.
With a population of over 55,000, the border district of Raz and Jargalan is located 100km north of Bojnourd, provincial capital city of North Khorasan.
The 3.7 Richter earthquake in Zarand occurred at 06:32 hours local time (0202 GMT).
It was registered in an area located in 56.98 degrees longitude and 30.85 degrees latitude.
No reports have yet been available on possible damage to property.
Quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence in Iran, which lies on one of the world's most active seismic fault lines.
