Astara, Gilan Prov., Sept 11, IRNA-The autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan will start importing gas from Iran with the start of cold season, according to a reliable source.
Under a gas swap deal, 350 million cubic meters of natural gas will be pumped to Iran through Baku-Astara gas pipeline annually and Tehran offer the same amount of gas to the autonomous republic through its northwestern border points.
Up to three million cubic meters/day of gas is expected to be piped to meet Nakhichevan's fuel needs.
Azeri media quoted officials of that country as saying that tentative operations of a big gas pressure station in Azeri city of Astara have ended and Tehran and Baku will begin to swap gas as of September 15.
The pressure station has been set up by Ukraine's Summy Company at a cost of dlrs 17 million.
National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) has formerly announced that the deal will go into effect as of October 2006 but it will be implemented ahead of the schedule due to Azeri party's success in fulfilling its commitments.
