Presidents of Iran and Russia consider Tehran-Moscow cooperation important for world peace


United Nations, New York, Sept 16, IRNA-Presidents of Iran and Russia Thursday considered as important for world peace and security Tehran- Moscow consultation and cooperation.

In a meeting held on the sidelines of the UN world summit here, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin also called for the promotion of bilateral ties.

The two presidents discussed various issues including construction of gas pipeline, energy, air transportation, aviation, construction of power stations, the project on construction of Iran-Azerbaijan- Russia railroad, Zohre satellite, the Caspian See and defensive cooperation.

In the meeting, President Putin voiced his readiness to visit Tehran in the near future.

Ahmadinejad thanked for the sincere and friendly message Putin sent him on the occasion of his victory in Iran's presidential election and considered it as a sign of friendly ties between the two countries.

Ahmadinejad discusses key int'l issues with prominent figures

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday discussed issues of mutual interest and key international development with prominent world figures on the sidelines of the UN summit.

In a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Mikhail Saakashvili, the Iranian president called for closer and broader cooperation between Iran and Georgia in different domains, especially in the cultural field.

Ahmadinejad said numerous commonalties shared by the Iranian and Georgian nations give an impetus to promotion of cooperation and bilateral ties.

He welcomed an invitation by Saakashvili to visit Georgia and said he will visit the country on an appropriate time.

Saakashvili said his country admires the noble Iranian nation with their great civilization and rich culture.

He said he believes Iran is playing an important role in the international and regional relations.

He said his country is ready to promote ties with Iran.

In another meeting, Ahmadinejad and his Belarussian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko agreed the foreign ministers of the two countries would explore avenues for promotion of bilateral relations and draw up the agenda for the next meeting of the Iranian and Belarussian heads of state.

In a separate meeting, Ahmadinejad and his Tajik counterpart Imomali Rakhmonov stressed expansion of all-out ties between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Ahmadinejad and Armenian Prime Minister Andrinik Margaryan stressed the two countries' willingness to promote mutual ties and cooperation.

Ahmadinejad stresses role of Iraq's neighbors

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that Iraq's neighbors play a key role in restoration of peace and security to Iraq.

Ahmadinejad and Talabani

In a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Jalal Talabani on the sidelines of the UN summit, Ahmadinejad warned against enemies who try to sow discord among Iraqi people.

The Iranian president voiced sympathy with the bereaved survivors of the terrorist incidents in Iraq.

Talabani hailed Iran for its "positive and constructive" role in the restoration of security and calm to Iraq.

He also provided Ahmadinejad with a report on measures taken for compilation of his country's constitution.

Turning to the recent events in Kadhimiyah, the Iraqi president said they were premeditated terrorist incidents.

He expressed hope conditions in Iraq would improve after ratification of the constitution and promotion of the government institutions.

Ahmadinejad briefs Annan on Iran's international stances

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday briefed the UN Chief Kofi Annan on Iran's stance towards key international issues.

Ahmadinejad was among heads of states who met Annan Thursday on the sidelines of the UN summit.

Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Ethiopian, Pakistani, Iraqi, Nigerian, South African and Japanese prime ministers also held meeting with Annan.

President Ahmadinejad, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived here Tuesday on an official five-day visit to attend the 60th regular session of the UN General Assembly.

He delivered a speech at the UN world Summit Wednesday on the importance of dialogue, understanding and cooperation among different countries with the aim of materializing world peace and tranquility.

The Iranian president is also scheduled to deliver a 15-minute speech on Saturday at the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly, scheduled to be held for two weeks in presence of foreign ministers and 70 world leaders.

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani and a number of president's advisors are accompanying Ahmadinejad in his visit.

Ahmadinejad for promotion of Tehran-Kiev cooperation

Ahmadinejad called for promotion of Tehran-Kiev cooperation, especially in the field of gas and aviation industries.

In a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yushchenko on the sidelines of the UN summit, he said Iran and Ukraine should identify capacities for cooperation to bolster their cooperation.

Ahmadinejad thanked his counterpart for sending an envoy to submit him a message on his election to the presidential post, saying it shows consolidation of friendship and cordial ties between the two countries.

Yushchenko called Iran-Ukraine ties as "dynamic and growing" and expressed hope election of Ahmadinejad to the presidential post would inject new blood into bilateral ties.

The two heads of state also voiced their willingness to increase mutual cooperation, assign their foreign ministers to have more contacts and hold expert meetings to upgrade mutual ties.
