Abu Dhabi, Sept 17, IRNA-Iran will weave the world's largest carpet measuring 6,000 square meters for the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
The contract to weave the carpet was signed on Saturday by Iran Carpet Company Managing Director Mohammad Ali Karimi and Abu Dhabi Mayor Khalfan Gheith al-Mahirabi.
Iran's Ambassador to the UAE Mohammad-Ali Hadi and a number of Iranian and UAE officials were present in the signing ceremony.
The carpet will be woven in a two years time, for Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan Mosque, Karimi told IRNA.
He added that around 30 tons of wool, 15 tons of cotton and 1,000 weavers will be used for weaving of the carpet under supervision of 50 experts in three large workshops in Khorasan province.
The carpet is 135 meters long and 46 meters wide.
Twenty five natural colors will be used in weaving the carpet, he said.
Karimi said the weight of the carpet is around 45 tons.
Iran Carpet Company has already woven the world's current largest arpet for Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Muscat which is 70 meters long and 60 meters wide.
The company weaves 50,000 square meters of carpet annually and export 50 percent of its production to world markets.
