Japanese experts to create 3D plan of Bam Citadel

Tehran, 20 September 2005 (CHN) -- An expert team of the National Information Institute of Japan will arrive in Bam city, Iran, on 21 September to provide a 3 dimensional plan of the world famous adobe structure of Bam Citadel.

Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization of Iran, and the University of Tehran will cooperate with the Japanese team in providing the 3 dimensional plan of Bam Citadel.

The 3D plan of Bam Citadel is being provided to increase the accuracy of the renovation and salvation activities of the citadel.

"Professor Ono, from the National Information Institute of Japan, will come to Bam to visit the Citadel this Wednesday to provide a 3 dimensional plan of it. Tehran University, and Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization of Iran will cooperate in providing the plan which will help in the accuracy of Bam Citadel salvation project," says Eskandar Mokhtari, head of Bam Salvation Project.

After the devastating earth quake that hit the city of Bam 2 years ago, Japan has made lots of efforts for the renovation of this historical site, including a grant of112 million Japanese yens for Bam Salvation.

Bam Citadel was on of the largest adobe structures in the world and one of the most beautiful historical sites in Iran, which dates back to 2000 years ago. Unfortunately, more than 80 percent of Bam Citadel collapsed by the earthquake that brought the city to ruins, leaving tens of thousands dead and homeless.

The inscription of the Bam Citadel on the World Heritage list at the 28th session of the UNESCO's World Heritage Committee in China was a giant step towards renovating this historical site
