Iranian President thanks India for positive stands in IAEA

Tehran, Sept 23, IRNA-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed the positive stands of Indian government in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding Iran's nuclear issue.

In a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday, the president expressed his belief that adopting such constructive positions by India would lead to further deepening and continuation of bilateral ties.

Referring to Iran's flexible and extensive cooperation with the IAEA in the past two years, Ahmadinejad criticized the attitude of some European governments that exploit Tehran's behavior as a leverage against Iranian nation.

In his conversation with the Premier, the president further attributed the insistence of certain European countries on depriving Iran from its lawful right for developing nuclear fuel cycle to their extreme greed and stressed that the positions adopted by the European trio was obviously against the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

He further emphasized that Tehran was after nothing more than its acknowledged rights as an IAEA member and highlighted the importance of putting an end to politicization of Iran's nuclear case and dealing with it from the standpoint of legal principles in the negotiations.

The Indian Premier, too, pointed to the old cultural commonalties between the countries and called for further expansion of bilateral ties.

He said his country's positions on Iran were based on the long-term bilateral relations.

Singh further stressed that finding any solutions to Iran's nuclear problem should be based on the principle that Iran as an NPT member should retain its lawful rights.
