Tehran, April 9, IRNA-United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has designated 2007 as the Year of Molana Jalaleddin Rumi to mark the prominent Iranian mystic and poet's 800th birth anniversary, said an Iranian daily.
Iran welcomes the initiative and will spare no effort to introduce other luminaries to the world, deputy head of Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization for cultural affairs, Seyed Ali Reza Sajjadpour told the English-language newspaper 'Iran Daily'.
Turkey's cultural officials have announced plans to hold special ceremonies for commemorating the famous personality, he added.
"We believe that such moves, initiated by whichever country, will finally help promote the Iranian culture," he said.
Iran will also arrange programs to further introduce the figure to the global community, he added.
Sajjadpour noted there are so many Iranian luminaries, that their selection for commemoration becomes difficult.
Although Molana Rumi was born in Balkh, Afghanistan, he devoted all his life to promoting the Iranian and Islamic culture, and all his works are in Persian language, the daily added.
