TEHRAN, Apr. 19 (Mehr News Agency) -- Some $20 billion have been earmarked for the improvement of the nation's transportation system in the next five years, noted Farhad Rahbar, chairman of the Management and Planning Organization (MPO).
Using a dual price system for the gasoline in the second half of the year (Iranian year started March 21) is not feasible at all, he commented referring to the controversial issue of vehicle's fuel in the current year.
However, he added, given the insufficient budgets allocated to the gasoline imports, the possibility that the commodity becomes rationed in the second half of the year is very high.
Given the $2.5-billion budget earmarked for the current year's gasoline imports, it seems that if we are not able to lower our gasoline consumption, we will be obliged to ration the commodity, he stated.
He also explained, in preparing the current year's budget bill, government had adopted policies which would eventually lead to a decline in the gasoline consumption. The issue underwent some changes in the Majlis (parliament), however.
