TEHRAN, Apr. 16 (Mehr News Agency) -- The exact date for waterfilling of Sivand Dam is to be determined in a joint meeting on June 5, between Energy Ministry and Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (CHTO), an official at the ministry noted on Saturday.
"The dam would very likely be filled after this summer, for the farmers at the lower plains will be in pressing need for water during the season," he speculated, adding that the bilateral talks are to resolve the existing disagreement between the two entities on this matter.
The CHTO believes that the lake formed at the slope of the dam, as close as nine kilometers to Pasargadae, will damage the Tomb of Cyrus the Great as the result of humidity caused by this large pond. However, the ministry claims that being 45 meters below the plain that tomb sits on, the lake is no serious danger to the ancient monument.
The Sivand Dam is at 80% physical progress and further research work, in the meantime, is to offer more findings to the upcoming joint committee.
