Iran's Zarbang to bang their drums in Sweden

TEHRAN, Aug. 8 (Mehr News Agency) -- The Iranian percussion ensemble Zarbang is scheduled to give concerts in Sweden on November 10, 11, 12, and 15.

The group will perform some of their old and new pieces as well as tabla and sarod duets.

Zarbang gathers some of the finest percussionists from Iran and Afghanistan.

Inspired by tribal rhythms, Zarbang has created a new sound by utilizing instruments of various cultures while staying true to the essence and origin of each instrument.

Zarbang's sound is dynamic, meditative and internal on one hand and ecstatic and trance-inducing on the other hand, drawing upon Sufi and ancient Persian rhythms used for inducing altered states.

The members include Behnam Samani, the acclaimed Iranian tombak and daf player; Pejman Haddadi, the recipient of the prestigious Durfee Master Musician Fellowship and hailed the "finest Iranian percussionist in the West"; Hakim Ludin, the celebrated Afghan modern percussionist; Reza Samani, the versatile Iranian musician who plays the Iranian wood wind instruments ney-anban (Iranian bagpipe) and zorna in addition to tombak and daf; and Javid Afsari, a highly accomplished Iranian santur player.

The band's album "Rangineh" was released in Iran and they plan to release their new album "The Sleepwalker's Song" in the near future.
