Iranian President: US, Britain not qualified to attend UNSC

Ardebil, Aug 15, IRNA-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday that countries such as the US and Britain are not at all qualified to attend assemblies such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

He made the remark at the gathering of people in Takhti stadium of the provincial capital of Ardebil in his 18th provincial visit.

The chief executive said that these countries have disreputed the UNSC by their miscalculated measures, adding that therefore, they should not have a seat in the UN Security Council.

"Both UN and its Security Council are bound to promote global peace and tranquility, while such a grave task was not accomplished in Lebanon," he said.

Ahmadinejad said that the UNSC should have rushed to establish cease-fire in Lebanon, but unfortunately, due to the hegemony and influence of states such as the US and Britain it failed to fulfill its duty to establish immediate cease-fire and prevent killing of defenseless Lebanese people.

"One should not imagine that the cease-fire in Lebanon has set thing right, as authors of the scenario of attack on Lebanon and supporters of the savage aggression on the oppressed Lebanese people, who should be blamed for preventing an immediate cease-fire in the country, are accomplices to the Zionist regime's crimes and should stand trial," he said.

Concerning the losses inflicted on Lebanon's infrastructural establishments by Israel, he said that those involved in planning and launching these attacks are responsible to compensate the relevant damages, adding that the UNSC is bound to pursue the issue and make the aggressor and its supporters cover the damages.
