TEHRAN, Aug. 16 (Mehr News Agency) - Iran's army will start a series of military war games on Saturday to support the government's policies, the Army Deputy Commander Brigadier General Mohammad-Reza Ashtiani said on Wednesday.

"The military exercises will be launched in many provinces especially West Azarbaijan, East Azarbaijan, Kordestan, Sistan-Baluchestan, and Khorasan," Ashtiani told a press conference.

The maneuvers will involve the army's ground and air forces, the general added.

"The army is always prepared to back the government's policies... and is ready to thwart all the plots against the Islamic Republic of Iran," he stated.

"We should show Iran's military capability to the enemies," he said. "No army in the world can confront Iran's Army, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, and Basij (voluntary) forces," he noted.

The new weapons and munitions, which have been manufactured by the defense industries organization with the cooperation of the army, such as armor-piercing bullets, will be used in the exercises, he stated.
