TEHRAN, Dec. 1 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iranian film "A Few Kilos of Dates for a Funeral" directed by Saman Salur won the Grand Prize of the 28th Festival of the Three Continents held from Nov. 21 to 28 in Nantes, France.
Besides the Golden Montgolfiere and €7,000, Salur was also given the City of Nantes Award and €1,500 for the best direction.
The festival is an international film event devoted to the presentation of feature fiction films and documentaries from Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
The festival is intended to use the medium of fiction films and documentaries to make possible confrontations of cultures from the different countries of the three continents, to promote the distribution of films from the three continents, to enable filmmakers from the three continents to meet each other as well as other French and international filmmakers, and to help artists achieve recognition for creative work that is often produced under extremely difficult conditions.
Nantes, a seaport on the Atlantic coast, is a particularly appropriate renddezvous, since it continues to be a gateway to these three continents.
"A Few Kilos of Dates for a Funeral" also won the Golden Leopard Special Jury Prize in the Filmmakers of the Present section at the 59th Locarno International Film Festival last August in Switzerland.
