TEHRAN, Dec. 3 (Mehr News Agency) - Iran's production share from giant gas field of South Pars has reached to equal measure with Qatar, the managing director of the Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) said here on Sunday.
Phases 1-5 at South Pars (SP) gas field are currently producing 5 billion cubic meters of gas per day, pushing Iran on a par with Qatar, Akbar Torkan told Mehr News Agency.
The official explained that the Persian Gulf Arab state is to 'reap' a project to increase production from the joint gas field by March 2007. "Iran is also going to operate SP phases 6-8 by the same period. Therefore, the two states will again have the same amount of production."
Torkan described Iran's status in Middle East 'adequate' as far as hydrocarbon reserves are concerned. He added that its position has become more prominent given that Iran is an independent country with calm political conditions.
