Dubai, Dec 6, IRNA-The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Etihad Airlines, based in Abu Dhabi, made its first direct flight from Abu Dhabi to Tehran Wednesday coinciding with the sheikdom's national day.
The airline will fly three times a week (Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays) from Abu Dhabi International Airport to Imam Khomeini International Airport.
Etihad Airlines' Boeing-777 planes will transport a maximum of 378 passengers between the two capitals on each flight.
According to official statistics, over 400,000 Iranian nationals live in the UAE while more than 10,000 Iranian university and school students study in the sheikdom. Also, over 6,500 Iranian companies are registered in the UAE with partners in Iran.
Established in 2003, Etihad Airlines has quickly positioned itself in the global travel business with its comparatively low fares and reasonable service.
It is the third national airline of the UAE after Air Emirates (Dubai) and Air Arabia (Sharjah).
