TEHRAN, Dec. 11 (Mehr News Agency) - It is the "political will" of Iran and Russia to start up the Bushehr nuclear power plant on schedule, Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Director Gholamreza Aqazadeh said in Tehran on Monday.
"We will do our utmost to remove the obstacles and launch the power plant on time," Aqazadeh told reporters at a news conference after a two-hour meeting with Sergei Kiriyenko, the head of the Russia-Iran Joint Economic Commission.
There is no change in the plans and the fuel for the Bushehr power plant will be transferred in March, he said.
Kiriyenko said, "We need more cooperation between Iranian and Russian experts, and one of the most important issues is acquiring sufficient financial support."
The experts who have accompanied him to Tehran will examine the technical development of the project and will report back to Aqazadeh, he said.
"There have been no changes in the Russian stance on building the Bushehr power plant and we will try to complete it on time," he noted.
Iran has decided to provide assistance beyond previous agreements to Russia in order to solve the technical problems of the power plant and to bring it on stream on schedule, Aqazadeh explained.
On the sidelines of the press conference, AEOI Deputy Director Mohammad Saeedi said, "Iran will not pay Russia more than what has been agreed."
Iran only decided to speed up the payments in order to accelerate construction of the power plant, he added.
"If the third party countries do not send the equipment required for the power plant, it will be built in Russia and sent to Tehran," he explained.
