Tehran, Dec 13, IRNA-Nuclear fuel supplies to Bushehr nuclear power plant will begin in March 2007, according to an earlier adopted plan and preliminary steps for the supplies will be taken in January 2007.
The remark was made by Chief Executive Officer of Russia's Atomstroiexport Sergei Shmatko while speaking to Russian journalists after talks with Iranian Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of the Islamic Republic Gholamreza Aqazadeh.
"Preliminaries for the fuel supply will begin in January next year and they include the transportation, getting the Iranian side's permission," Shmatko added.
"Under the earlier adopted plan, the fuel supply will start in March 2007," said the official.
Deputy head for marketing and information policy of the Tekhsnabexport company Valery Govorukhin told journalists earlier that nuclear fuel of the Iranian Bushehr NPP will be delivered from Russia by air.
"We will deliver the fuel as soon as we get the command and the fuel will be delivered exclusively by air, as it is the safest method of all," he said.
TVEL corporation officials said that nuclear fuel for Bushehr NPP that is being built by Russian specialists -- some 100 tonnes -- has already been produced and is stored at the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant.
According to the plant's director general Vadim Razin, the fuel 'has been long produced and is stored under special control in a depot'.
Experts, in particular, former Atomic Energy Minister Viktor Mikhailov, have said that nuclear fuel produced in Russia for Iranian Bushehr NPP can be stored at the Russian producer's depots for many years.
