Haleh Anvari's Chador Dadar exhibition in Tehran

By Paul Sanford

Last Friday, Haleh Anvari’s new exhibition of photographs Chador Dadar opened in the Etemad Gallery in Tehran.   It was a very crowded and busy gathering on the first snowy night of the winter in North Tehran.

Haleh is a talented photographer whose photographs show the chador, traditionally a black all-encompassing tent which covers the wearer from head to toe, in a totally different light.   Haleh’s chadors are a rich and vivid mixture of red, blue, green and orange fabrics, and are really eye-catching.

The most intriguing point about this exhibition was the location of the photographs, ranging from London, Paris, Dubai, the Taj Mahal and Istanbul.  they show how the multi-colored chadors attracted reactions from the local people in each city in front of well known monuments.   I thought that the photographs set in Paris and Istanbul were outstanding.

I have a few photographs to share with you.

The exhibition runs until 13th December from 3pm to 8pm.  It is closed on the 8th November.

Gallery Etemad, Darous, Shahrzad Blvd, Yaar Mohammadi Street, Zafari St No 5.  Tel 22599127
