KERMANSHAH, Dec. 22 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar on Friday called 2006 the year of the absolute failure of the U.S. aggressive policies in the Middle East.
"The U.S. should end its harmful military presence in the Middle East," Mohammad-Najjar said in a meeting with a group of military commanders in Kermanshah Province.
According to Reuters, U.S. President George W. Bush, at his year-end news conference on Wednesday, acknowledged sectarian violence had stymied U.S. efforts to bring security and stability to Iraq. The rampant bloodshed has led to rising calls at home for a pullout of U.S. troops.
The people's massive participation in the December 15 Assembly of Experts and local council elections foiled the enemies' plots against Iran, Mohammad-Najjar said.
The "epic turnout" proved that people still support independence, freedom, and the Islamic Republic, he noted, adding, "The enemies' psychological war and propaganda will not influence the strong will of Iranians."
