TEHRAN, Dec. 31 (Mehr News Agency) - Some 200 million barrels of crude oil can be extracted from Azar Oilfield in Anaran Block, deputy with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Exploration Directorate said here on Sunday.
Being commercially viable, Azar Oilfield may offer up to 200 million barrels of crude oil, Hossein Roshandel told the Mehr News Agency.
He also said that the second exploration well at Anaran Block tells of another giant field discovery.
"Azar and the new oilfield have good hydrocarbon resources. The API of the crude found in the fields is at 24 which is indicative of good quality," Roshandel elaborated.
Russia's LUKoil and Norway's Norsk Hydro conduct the exploration operations at the block, he noted.
Production from Well No.1 is expected to kick off in two months at the rate of 2,000 bpd, and the other two stages should offer 25,000 and 35,000 bpd respectively according to the findings, Seifollah Jashnsaz continued, adding that Khami layer of Marun field, same region, is projected to produce 200 million cubic feet of gas and 50,000 barrels of condensates per day.
The plan calls for total of Rls.243 billion which is approved by NISOC's Board of Directors, he elaborated.
Mansurabad field is 10km northeast of Behbahan Township in Khuzestan and falls within Gachsaran Oil and Gas Production Company's mapped operations. The field was discovered back in 1977 and three wells in Asmari layer have so far been in full swing. Ballpark figure sets the in-place reserve at 3 billion barrels.
Khami is the country's deepest hydrocarbon layer after Bangestan and Asmari, all stretched along Zagros Mountains in southwestern region. It is 5,000 meters deep and is located 60 km southeast of provincial capital Ahvaz.
