Soheila Haghighat-Dowlatabadi's exhibition of women's faces at the Golestan gallery, 42 Shahid Kamasie Street, Darous (Tel. 22541589) was rather interesting and intriguing. I thought some of her works were rather good. All were women's faces, yet their expressions were quite different. Some of them I found not to the same standard but we enjoyed our visit and I have a selection of pictures for you to see for yourselves.
I discovered the works of Shahab Mousavizadeh who had an exhibition at Artists' Forum Morteza Momayez gallery a while ago. He is a well established artist both in Iran and in Germany where he has been living for many years.
Not many modern Iranian painters have the inclination to paint Persian/Iranian epic tales, stories or historical events. This is what I found most interesting in the works of Mousavizadeh. The exhibition was raising funds for the victims of the Bam earthquake, and some of the paintings were directly related to the disaster in Bam.
The works were very diverse and rather interesting. I liked those pieces that were more real and less emotional. I wish I had the money to buy one of his self portraits which I thought were amongst his best works at the exhibition, and also the painting of Foundry workers on their Break. If I had not mistaken the price by one big zero it would now be hanging in my work room! I just loved it but the price of 8,000,000 Rials ($900) was well above my means.
There were also many of his sketches and black and white watercolors in the other two smaller rooms and some of them were very interesting. Here I have a few sample pictures for you to see.
