Kuala Lumpur, Feb 11, IRNA-Iran's former president and Head of International Institute for Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations Mohammad Khatami said insulting others is not compatible with democracy and those who have insulted Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) must apologize for their shameful act.
Khatami, who is in Malaysia to participate in a conference, explained here his viewpoints on European newspapers insult to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to reporters on Saturday.
He said insult, dishonouring and inciting others' sentiments and beliefs are not compatible with freedom and wisdom.
Khatami added publishing insulting cartoons hurt all Muslim's feelings around the world.
Iran's former president emphasized that ideas can be criticized, but insulting others has no relation with thought and freedom.
Head of International Institute for Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations said insult is not only permissible to Islam, but also to the other religions.
A conference dubbed, "Who speaks for Islam, who speaks for the West" wrapped up its 2-day work on Saturday afternoon here by a speech given by Malaysian deputy prime minister.
