Beirut, Feb 15, IRNA-Islamic Republic of Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki arrived here for an official two-day visit on Wednesday night to hold talks with Lebanese political and religious officials.
The Iranian Foreign Minister was received at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport by Lebanese Health Minister Muhammad al-Khalifa, who welcomed him on behalf of his Lebanese counterpart Fawzi Salloukh.
Salloukh is currently accompanying Lebanon's Prime Minister Fuad Siniora, who left Beirut on Wednesday morning for an official visit to Italy atop a high ranking delegation.
Mottaki is scheduled to hold talks with the Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, Prime Minister Fuad Siniora, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fawzi Salloukh, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Leader of Parliament's Almostaqbal (future) Fraction Sa'deddin Hariri and a number of Lebanese leading religious personalities.
Iranian Foreign Minister's talks with the high ranking Lebanese officials will be focused on surveying the bilateral ties and the regional developments.
Among the other officials scheduled to hold talks with Mottaki during his visit are the Lebanese Hezbollah Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, Deputy Speaker of Lebanon's Higher Shi'a Council Abdul-Amir Qabalan, Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Sunnies Muhammad Qabbani, religious leader of the Lebanese Maronite Christians Nasrallah Safir, and Shi'a Grand Source of Jurisprudence Allameh Muhammad Hussain Fazlallah.
The Iranian Foreign Minister is accompanied by the IRI Ministry of Foreign Affairs Managing Director of Middle East Affairs as well as the ministry's Managing Director of Economic Affair.
The last visit of an Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs to Lebanon was by former IRI Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi on May 26, 2005, during which he held talks with high ranking Lebanese political and religious officials.
