Tehran, 21 February 2006 (CHN) -- Deputy of Iran's Police Department announced implementing of special security measures for the domestic and foreign tourists. According to the special program of Tehran's Police Department, security measures will be provided in different cities according to the number of tourists to these cities.
"The special program of Tehran's Police Department will be performed in different cities to increase the security of foreign and domestic tourists in tourism destination areas of Iran," said Chief Officer Asghar Jafari from Tehran's Police Dep. about providing security measures for tourists.
According to Jafari, special security forces will be supplied for each tourism destination area according to the number of tourists to that city. "For example having some 20 million tourists and pilgrims every year, the city of Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi Province in which the shrine of Imam Reza, the 8th Muslim Imam is located requires more security facilities. On the other hand, due to the large number of tourists who visit the city of Isfahan each year, the main security measures will be focused in this historical city," added Jafari.
Jafari also explained about the reduction in the number of antiques which exited the borders of Iran during the recent years. "Although due to the existence of some fake antiques, it is not always easy to distinguish them from the real ones, according to the police reports the number of antiques which were illegally taken out of the country this year has reduced compared with the previous year. We are strengthening the security measures in this respect as well to preserve our historical relics," said Asghar Jafari deputy of Iran's Police Department.
Iran is also determined to strengthen some safety measures along its borders with Turkey and to develop tourism security measures in the two countries.
"In a memorandum of understanding regarding security of tourists signed between Iran and Turkey, some aspects such as strengthening security and intelligence networks have been mentioned. Also joint cooperation between Iran and Turkey for preventing goods, drug, armaments, and human smugglings will be conferred and finalized according to this memorandum of understanding," said Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, deputy of Iran's Interior Minister.
During the 3-day meeting of Iranian and Turkish security authorities which will be held in Iran's Ministry of Interior, different aspects for increasing security measures and promotion of intelligent network services in the two countries will be discussed.
