Tehran, 26 February 2006 (CHN) -- Qeshm Airport will receive an international license from International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) by the end of winter to further enhance its activities in the Persian Gulf region.
"Airports should have ICAO's license to host international flights. Therefore, Qeshm Island is going to receive this license to strengthen its position and to develop its activities in the Persian Gulf region. Leapp Company in Malaysia is the advisor of Qeshm Free Zone Organization in this respect and it is supposed that Qeshm Island receive the license by the end of winter. With receiving this license and establishing the second phase of Qeshm Airport, this airport will be transformed into one of the main transit destinations in the Persian Gulf region," said Ketabchi, technical manager of Qeshm Investment Development Company to CHN.
According to Ketabchi, one of the main problems Dubai Airport has is the heavy aerial traffic of this region which has made it difficult to fulfill services. One of the major problems Dubai officials are facing with due to the heavy aerial traffic is providing the fuel for airplanes. However, after the international license is granted to Qeshm Airport, the airplanes from Far East to Europe and America can have a stop in Qeshm airport for fueling and other airport maintenance services.
Qeshm Airport is equipped to NDB and DME units for directing the airplanes toward the airport. One of the airstrips of the airport is also equipped with PAPI system for directing the airplane towards this airstrip.
Fuel bunkering service up to 4 million litters is one of the other facilities of Qeshm International Airport compared to the other airports of the region which is an important factor for planes crossing over the Persian Gulf.
