Quake hits Qeshm island in southern Iran

Tehran, Feb 27, IRNA-An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale hit the outskirts of Qeshm Island in southern Hormuzgan province on Monday.

According to the provincial seismological base affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake occurred at 11:32 hours local time (08:02 GMT).

The quake was felt in an area measuring 55.68 degrees in longitude and 26.64 degrees in latitude.

There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the tremor.

Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf was hit by several earthquakes and aftershocks in late November 2005 which killed dozens of people and injured over 80.
