Two strong quakes hit Orzouyieh and Jiroft in southeastern Iran

Tehran, Feb 28, IRNA-Two earthquakes measuring 5.8 and 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted the cities of Orzouyieh and Jiroft in the southeastern province of Kerman, respectively, on Tuesday.

According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake in Orzouyieh occurred at 11:01 hours local time (07:31 GMT).

The epicenter of the quake was located south of Orzouyieh, between the provinces of Kerman and Hormuzgan, the report added.

It said the quake in Jiroft occurred at 11:20 hours local time (07:50 GMT) and was epicentered 50 kilometers north of Jiroft.

There have been no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quakes.

Iran is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines.
