Tehran, Jan 17, IRNA-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Tuesday morning extended an official welcome for Tajik President Imomali Rakhmonov, who arrived here Monday night for a two-day visit.
Rakhmonov was invited to visit Iran by President Ahmadinejad to attend a conference on Iran-Tajikistan economic cooperation and hold talks with Iranian officials.
During the ceremony, which was attended by senior officials of the two countries, the two countries' national anthems were played and the Iranian president reviewed a guard of honor.
High-ranking delegations of Iran and Tajikistan are expected to hold joint talks within a few hours with the two presidents attending.
During his stay here, Rakhmonov will meet separately with President Ahmadinejad, Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
During those meetings, the two sides are expected to discuss bilateral, regional and international developments.
Political experts predict the visit by Rakhmonov to Iran would open a new chapter in economic and infrastructural cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe.
Iran and Tajikistan currently enjoy a high-level of political and economic cooperation.
