TEHRAN, Jan. 20 (Mehr News Agency) - Iranian veteran poet Mahmud Moshref Azad Tehrani, known as M. Azad, died on Thursday at the age of 72, the Persian service of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) announced on Friday.
Born in 1933, M. Azad received a degree from Tehran University's Faculty of Literature. He was regarded as one of the country's most controversial poets in the 1960s and 1970s.
M. Azad published his first book, "The Land of Night", with an introduction by renowned Iranian poet Ahmad Shamlu, in 1955.
He wrote 50 books in the field of children's literature as well as some poetry collections such as "The Wind's Long Odes" and "Dawn with Me".
His funeral procession will be held on January 22, starting at his house on Shariati Ave., and he will be buried in the courtyard of Imamzadeh Taher in Karaj.
