Iran's Civil Aviation Organization ready to launch Tehran-New York direct flights

Tehran, Jan 26, IRNA-Iran's Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) here Thursday voiced its readiness to launch direct flights between Tehran and New York or Tehran and Los Angeles. The CAO has announced its preparedness in a letter to US aviation body.

Public relations manager of the CAO told IRNA the organization had launched direct flights from Tehran to a great number of capitals at four corners of the world and a direct flight to the United States could be a positive response to the request of Iranians living there.

Reza Ja'farzadeh added the US-based Iranians had made the request in their meeting with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his visit to New York.

"Direct flights (to the US) are economical for traders," noted the official, adding Ahmadinejad aiming to meet his fellow countrymen's need had urged the organization to study the case.

Ja'farzadeh said the CAO is cooperating with 188 states under supervision of international aviation body ICAO.

"The Islamic Republic planning to start the flights is waiting for the response of US aviation officials," he added.

Iran and the US are signatories to Chicago Convention that calls for rendering better services to passengers at airports.
