Tehran, Jan 29, IRNA-The World Physics Olympiad is scheduled to be held in Iran in 2007.
A report released by the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Education on Sunday said that Iran had officially declared its readiness to host the event in 1993.
According to the report, the Minister of Education Mahmoud Farshidi and the committee in charge of the upcoming Olympiad in a meeting on Sunday, discussed various dimensions of this important scientific-cultural event and its role in introducing Iran's culture and civilization to the educated and intellectuals of 80 countries.
At the meeting, Farshidi underlined that various departments of the Ministry of Education and other organizations should make effort to organize the Olympiad in the best way.
The minister stressed the need to attract the attention of the public opinion, in particular that of pupils, students, teachers and university instructors to this significant scientific event, adding, "To defend our cultural identity, we do not necessarily have to make reference to ancient times.
"Despite taking pride in our famous scholars who specialized in various sciences, we do have prominent scientific figures at the present time deserving to be honored and introduced to the world."
