Tehran, July 5, IRNA-Some 250,000 liters of petrol are wasted due to spillage in filling stations in Iran, the fourth major oil producer, every day, experts believe.
The soaring demand for gasoline is threatening the second major OPEC supplier, forcing it to import 40 percent of the 70 million liters of gasoline a day largely due to limited and low refining capacity and rampant gasoline consumption.
The looming crisis forced Iran's Interior Ministry to announce rationing the fuel and curtailing its imports.
Press believe that rationing and mechanisms to curtail import would lead to an increase in prices and inflation, already running at 12.2 percent.
High gasoline consumption has been compounded by a boom in car sales.
