Tehran, July 6, IRNA-The director general of the Health Department of the Iraqi holy city of Najaf, Manzar al-Azari, released a final number of persons killed and injured in the explosion in the city of Kufa on Thursday.
Al-Azari told IRNA that 12 individuals were martyred in the blast. Of this number, three were Iranian women and four Iraqis.
Five male corpses have been recovered but have not yet been identified.
"Meanwhile, out of the 39 persons who were wounded, 21 were identified as Iranian pilgrims.
"Officials of Najaf's Health Department are trying to identify the five male corpses through identity cards recovered from their bodies," he concluded.
A bomb planted in a car stationed between two buses carrying Iranian pilgrims exploded near the shrine of Meysam Tammar, a disciple of Imam Ali, in the city of Kufa, Iraq.
Some 48 Iranian pilgrims who were on the bus were not affected by the explosion and are safe and sound.
Most of the Iranians who were victims of today's blast are from the pilgrimage caravans of the cities of Ardakan and Yazd in central Iran.
