TEHRAN, July 15 (Mehr News Agency) -- The Peace Envoy caravan, consisting of 40 Iranian art students, is to travel to Turkey, Greece, Italy, and France in mid-August to familiarize people with Iran's tourist attractions, the Persian service of CHN reported on Saturday.
Amir-Mehdi Arbaban, the secretary of the Leaders' Society of Touring and Tourism, explained that the project can help counter the anti-Iranian propaganda which has caused a decline in the number of foreign tourists visiting the country.
"Compared to participating in international exhibitions and distributing CDs and books, face-to-face communication can better familiarize people with Iran's tourist attractions," he noted.
Since civilizations are studied in more detail at universities, the project will probably be more effective at the universities of these countries, Arbaban observed.
He called for the support of the public sector and said that tour leaders can also encourage more tourists to travel to Iran, but this requires special training.
