Iranian President calls for elimination of discrimination against women

Tehran, July 16, IRNA-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here on Saturday called for elimination of all discrimination against women.

In a message to the first International Conference on Women Rights and Responsibilities in the Islamic System, the president said it is a blessing for women that the invaluable responsibility of bringing up the human beings has been bestowed to women.

He felicitated the auspicious birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) beloved daughter, Hadhrat Fatemeh Zahra (SA) which marks the Women's Day in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Turning to the sensitive, lasting, delicate and effective role of women in the history of mankind, the Iranian president accused the Western civilization of either treachery against women and undermining their genuine status in the course of history, within the community and family or totally ignoring them under the pretext of supporting them.

He further underlined the need for restoring the true value of women and the respect they deserve.

It has been organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in cooperation with the Center for Women and Family Affairs and Women Cultural and Social Council.

Scholars from Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Egypt, Thailand, Kosovo and Palestine are participating in the conference.
