July 21, 2006, RFE -- Germany says it rejects parts of a letter Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad sent to German Chancellor Angela Merkel on July 19.
Merkel's spokesman, Ulrich Wilhelm, says the letter made statements regarding Israel, its right to exist, as well as to the Holocaust, that Germany believes are "unacceptable."
Ahmadinejad has denied the Holocaust and called for Israel to be wiped off the map.
Wilhelm also noted that the letter made no mention of Iran's disputed nuclear program.
