TEHRAN, June 4 (Mehr News Agency) - Midfielder Mehdi Mahdavikia Sunday scotched rumors about his injury and assured the national football officials that he would be ready for the 2006 World Cup opener against Mexico.
Hamburg right winger in his telephone conversation said he would join the team in the resort town of Friedrichshafen, southwest of Germany, in a couple of days.
Mahdavikia sustained a leg injury in the training session ahead of a friendly against Croatia in Osijek on May 28.
The Group D-bound Iran will take on Mexico in Nuremberg on June 11 and is scheduled to play Portugal and Angola in Frankfurt and Leipzig on June 17 and 21 respectively.
