TEHRAN, June 7 (Mehr News Agency) -- A delegation of 30 traders and entrepreneurs from the Abadan Chamber of Commerce visited London from May 20 to 25. The trip was arranged to promote trade contacts with the London Chamber of Commerce and successful Iranian businessmen based in Britain.
"Meeting with our Iranian counterparts in the Middle East Association (MEA) and visiting the DTI (Department of Trade and Industries) allowed our delegates to introduce the province's advantages as a center for transit and distribution of British-made industrial commodities in the region," the head of the delegation told the Persian service of ISNA on Wednesday.
"Encouraging investment in the Arvand Free Zone was another goal of this trip. The comparably cheaper labor force and low cost of energy are considered strong incentives to attract foreign capital to the zone," Gholamreza Akbarzadeh explained, adding that the relatively 'weak status' of traditional exports from Iran was also explored during the meetings.
The Iran-Britain Joint Chamber of Commerce and the Iranian Embassy in London were the chief coordinators of the trip, which was organized to create trade opportunities for the business communities of Iran's Khuzestan Province and Britain.
