Letter to Michael Ledeen

Re: Your OpEd “Is Bill Clinton Still President?” – June 07, 2006

Let me start with your article’s closing in which you claim “we”, the United States, have defeated the Soviet Union.  Victory must first be defined.  Since the end of the Cold War, Europe has had to shoulder all the poverty stricken Eastern European countries, America has undertaken the extraordinary burden of deactivating and destroying Russia’s old nuclear weapons, engaging their nuclear scientists so that they would not be poached by ‘rogue’ nations, while Russia is using its income to enhance its infrastructure, its military might, and spreading its wings to win over allies.

Meanwhile, the US is busy making enemies around the world while Russia is befriending rich nations such as Iran, and making a pretty penny out of it.  Its reach in the Middle East is far greater than during the Cold War, and it is acting as a power broker and an arbitrator, whereas the US is blindly supporting Israel at the detriment of its own national interest – something no doubt you applaud.

Russia’s reach goes beyond the Middle East into Far East Asia.  As a negotiating partner in the N. Korean nuclear crisis, it has become indispensable.  Russia is a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the US is not.  While it cannot match the US arms one on one, it went for quality and produced the Moskit anti-ship cruise missiles (NATO designation: SS-N-22 Sunburn), a weapon for which the US Navy currently has no defense.  Let us not forget its supply of energy, something we sorely lack..

If you are referring to capitalism winning over communism, let us hope that a changeover is in order for you too so that the hatred that is blinding your logic will dissipate and you can see things more clearly.   Iranians are not responsible for taking American and British lives in Iraq, but can you say the same thing about Israelis not taking American lives? There are American vets who have filed a law suit against Israel in 1967 and are still waiting for justice.

I would not be distressed about the Bush overture towards Iran.  But then again, no doubt you are not.  You merely state this to make a sordid point.  You wish America to uproot the current regime, or better still, to attack Iran.

Do not delusion the gullible masses about Iranian actions or their intentions.  The Iranian regime does not believe in a final confrontation or mastery over the world.  However, the people you serve do.

"The Feast of Tabernacles is the period when Israel triumphs over the other people of the world. That is why during this feast we seize the loulab and carry it as a trophy to show that we have conquered all other peoples, known as "populace"..."

--Zohar, Toldoth Noah 63b

"When the Messiah comes every Jew will have 2800 slaves."

--Simeon Haddarsen, fol. 56-D

Obviously the Messiah has not come yet, but in preparation for that day, you have more than enough slaves.  God knows that there are numerous Mojahedeen-e Khalg (MEK)  who betray Iran at your command.

The truth of it is, Mr. Ledeen, Iranians have no faith in the negotiations you refer to.  America has a habit of abrogating its obligations.  Even the 1955 Treaty of Amity between the United States and Iran, which was approved by a 2/3 Senate majority , and as such, became the Supreme Law of the Land, has been violated by the United States’ Presidents.  The Algiers Accords, a bilateral agreement signed in 1981, has been violated by the United States.  It would be foolhardy for any Iranian official to take the United States seriously.

So, true ‘freedom loving Iranians’ see through you.  We ignore you because your war drums are so loud you won’t hear us anyway.   On the off chance that you take a breather, here is a word or two … True, you have traitors at your command, but we outnumber them.  You also toy with the young Shah, but he is not welcomed back…in 1953 your tricks worked and we got cheated out of a democracy.  Don’t think you can play that game again.  The revolution was the sinking ship that sent all the rats scurrying away.  You got the rats.  Without them, we mean to build a country that will reclaim the glory it deserves.  As a word of caution, Bernard Lewis’s vision will not be realized.
