Dear Mr. Jazini
:
We, the undersigned,
object and appeal to your government for
an end to the illegal incarceration of Prof. Ramin Jahanbegloo who was arrested at
Tehran’s Mehrabad airport while trying to board a flight to
Brussels on April
27th. Dr. Jahanbegloo, a
former political science faculty at
University of
Toronto in
Canada, a
theorist and a long time advocate of non-violence, was involved in cultural
activities in
Iran and was
heading an NGO to help Iranian citizens.

We understand that
he is detained without any legal charges against him; Moreover, he has been denied access to an
attorney as the authorities in
Iran have claimed that he is held on national security
issues.
We, the undersigned
oppose such actions by your government and
ask for Mr. Jahanbegloo’s immediate release from Evin Prison so that he
may join his wife and infant
child. The illegal arrest and
imprisonment of individuals who seek
justice in Iran
is against all international and legal jurisdictions. Additionally, we ask for the freedom of all
political detainees who are held in
Iran’s various
prisons for participating in peaceful gatherings.
