Berlin, March 1, IRNA-FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter strongly dismissed calls to ban Iran from the 2006 World Cup in Germany for political reasons, calling it "unthinkable".
"This is unthinkable to me. We would never cancel an invitation for a federation based on any political statements," Blatter told Germany's top-selling Bild newspaper on Wednesday.
He stressed FIFA is "absolutely neutral" on religious and political issues.
Iran starts the 2006 World Cup campaign against Mexico in Nuremberg on June 11 with additional group D matches against Portugal in Frankfurt on June 17 and Angola in Leipzig on June 21.
