Dushanbe, March 13, IRNA-The number of students enrolled in Persian-language courses in US universities is soaring, a US-based Persian literature professor said Sunday.
The number of students in Persian language and Iranology courses in US universities has increased five times compared with last year's figure, Assistant Professor of Near Eastern Studies at Arizona University Kamran Talatoff told IRNA.
Talatoff, who is now based in the US, made the remarks following the conclusion of the fifth International Seminar of Persian Language University Professors in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The number of US-based Iranians in Persian linguistics and Iranology courses is increasing, he noted.
Holding such international seminars on Persian language and literature is a leap forward in efforts to promote scientific cooperation among Persian language researchers, he suggested.
The two-day International Seminar of Persian Language University Professors, attended by 40 Persian literature professors, opened in Dushanbe on Thursday.
The first and fourth seminar was held in Tehran, Iran.
Tajikistan, home to 6.5 million people, is the only Persian- speaking country in Central Asia.
