China urges talks on Iran's nuclear case

Beijing, March 14, IRNA-Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao on Tuesday continued diplomacy to resolve Iran's nuclear case, saying China favor measures that would push forward efforts to restore peace to the world.

China strongly supports peace in the world and has taken the steps to help make this a reality across the globe, he told reporters at a press conference after the conclusion of the 10-day China National People's Congress session.

He said China was in favor of resolving Iran's nuclear case through talks just as it had insisted that the nuclear standoff with North Korea be resolved peacefully.

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing told a news conference in Beijing that Iran, as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, had the right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy and should respect as well its commitments and obligations under the treaty.

His comments were made on the sidelines of the 10-day session of China's National People's Congress.

The Iran nuclear issue should be resolved through diplomatic and peaceful ways, he stressed.

Larijani in Beijing to review bilateral ties with Chinese officials

Beijing, March 14, IRNA-Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's special envoy Mohammad Javad Larijani arrived here Tuesday morning to discuss issues of mutual interest with senior Chinese officials.

Larijani, who is carrying a message from President Ahmadinejad, was warmly welcomed upon his arrival by several Chinese Foreign Ministry officials.

Larijani, upon his arrival at Beijing's international airport, told an IRNA correspondent that his two-day visit was aimed at discussing Tehran-Beijing relations as well as the latest regional and international developments with Chinese officials.

"Pressures imposed by certain countries with their insistence on their one-sided policies have created tensions in the Middle East and this will also be discussed in our meetings," Larijani added.
