CASMII calls for participation in antiwar rallies around the world

Source: Campaign against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran (CASMII)

No sanctions and no military attack against Iran

The US war drive against Iran under the unfounded allegation of a nuclear weapons program in Iran is a replay of the run-up to the invasion of Iraq under the pretext of weapons of mass destruction in the country.

The truth is that hundreds of intrusive visits to Iran’s nuclear sites by the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the past three years have failed to find any evidence of a nuclear weapons program in the country.

While the Western media portray Iran as a threat, it is in fact the US and Israeli

governments which are actively making preparation to attack Iran:

  • The US and Israeli leaders have repeatedly, openly and directly made threats to take military action against Iran.
  • US unmanned drones have in the past year violated the Iranian air space in order to spy over Iranian military installations and to map out the Iranian radar system.
  • Secretary of the State, Condoleezza Rice, has recently requested $75 million for “democratization” of Iran, a new name for “regime change”.
  • The US marines have conducted a probe into ethnic conflict in Iran with a view to foment ethnic unrest in the country.
  • There are reports, e.g. in the American Conservative by the ex-CIA officer Philip Giraldi, that the Bush Administration is considering to break a 60 year taboo and use the nuclear bomb against Iran.

As in the case of Iraq, sanctions against Iran will be devastating for the ordinary people and will act as a prelude for a military attack on the country. Such an attack will lead to a horrifying conflagration in the Middle East, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and injuries, massive suffering and traumatisation of the population, and unimaginable consequences for global security, rise in the prices of oil and spread of extremism and terrorism.

The Iranian nuclear issue should be resolved strictly under the auspices of the IAEA and by the US government entering direct negotiations with Iran on the basis of recognizing Iran’s rights under the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) for a civilian nuclear technology on its territory.

CASMII calls on all its supporters to fully mobilize and participate in the 18th March antiwar rallies all around the world.
