Berlin, May 5, IRNA-The influential chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the German Parliament, Ruprecht Polenz, on Friday lashed out at the United States for its continued refusal to hold direct talks with Iran over its nuclear program, news reports said on Friday.
"Washington's refusal to join direct talks with Iran, won't make it any easier to achieve a diplomatic solution to the current nuclear dispute," said Polenz who returned on Thursday from a two-day visit to Iran where he met with leading Iranian officials.
Polenz warned also of western attempts to unnecessarily step up political pressure on Iran, saying it would lead to a further escalation of the nuclear conflict.
The conservative lawmaker rejected calls for a German mediator role in Iran's nuclear row.
"It's true we have good relations with Tehran but we cannot be a mediator," Polenz added.
