Tehran, May 8, IRNA-The Iranian government is to reconsider its decision allowing women to enter stadiums to watch sports events, government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said in Tehran on Monday.
Addressing domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press briefing, Elham said that Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has instructed the government to study the views of religious leaders and reverse its decision allowing women's presence in stadiums.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last Thursday announced that Iranian women can watch national and other sports events in stadiums.
His decision has since met with opposition by a number of religious authorities.
President Ahmadinejad has said he would act upon the Supreme Leader's instruction in this connection, Elham said.
